Nicks Story

NICK'S STORY
Nick was 5 when he learned that his mother would do anything for drugs.
Nick came to New Horizons at the age of 10. He was not an easy kid to get to know. He wouldn't give hugs and didn't talk much. Every once in a while Nick would smile but it was a rare event. He hit other kids and had a general feeling of fear all of the time. Nick hated going to bed and bed time was a battle of wills and pure defiance. We put all the other children in bed while a staff member walked with Nick around the ranch to keep from disturbing the other boys in his group. Nick began to open up more about his past. One day Nick said, "Do you want to know why I don't like going to bed?"
Here is what Nick said:
"When I was little my mom did lots of drugs. I remember one time when she passed out and her cigarette caught the apartment on fire. We didn't lose much I don't think, because we didn't have much. I was five when we started living in the old brown car. I remember sleeping in the front seat because mom said the steering wheel bothered her. Mom would get us food sometimes as long as she had her pipe drugs. She would do things in the back seat with men when I tried to sleep. Men were in and out of the car all the time. Sometimes she would have me sleep in the trunk if she thought me being there would bother them. One night I woke up with a man grabbing me. Mom said it would be okay and then the man raped me. I cried for mom to help but she just looked away. Mom started bringing more men to the car to have sex with me saying we could make more money this way. She said we had to have money so my mother sold me to men for sex so she could get drugs. The next year I started school. When they learned I was living in a car they took me away from my mom."
Nick’s secret was finally out. Because of New Horizons and the adults who were willing to pour love and care into his life, Nick is now a leader in his church and community. He has a family of his own and is raising two children.

K-5th Grade Borden County Kids Raise Money for Back to School.

For the last several years members of First Baptist Church of Gail have been helping the children of the Audrey Grace House by raising money to supply the kitchen and have sponsored Christmas for the children.
This year when it was time for the children to go back to school the children from Gail, Texas got together and decided to raise money for our kids. This was a very small group of determined kids from 5 to 10 years old.
They volunteered the pastor, Randy Hardman and at the schools back to school party and charged $1.00 per balloon where others could throw a water balloon at the pastor. This may not say much for his preaching because they raised $90.00 for the back to school needs for the children at New Horizons.
God has blessed the children and all the adults from First Baptist Church Gail with giving loving hearts. It certainly shows in their children.

James 1:27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
